The Dan Cray Trio is unique in that it relies on a collaborative effort rather than the singular vision that is more typically found in a piano trio. This in turn has allowed the group to rise above the pick-up band mentality that has come to dominate the jazz landscape. Because each musician is equally invested in the development of the music, the Trio is able to match the intensity and clarity of purpose that define the best jazz artists.

Brazilian carnival celebration at The Morse happening simultaneously with the parade in Brazil and featuring Swing Brasileiro with Passistas Samba Dancers and special performance by Gingarte Capoeira.

Rachel Montiel is the founder of Passista's Samba Dance Group. A life long lover of Brazilian music and dance, she has trained extensively with renowned Chicago Queen of Samba, Ana Ribeiro, studied under internationally recognized choreographer and instructor, Edilson Lima of Sao Paulo, Brazil and famous TV star and Rainha de Bateria (Samba Queen) from Rio de Janeiro, Dill Costa. Rachel and the Passistas Samba dance group participate in many educational performances and workshops in public schools and universities as well as other educational and professional engagements. The Passistas dance group has performed throughout the Midwest and made several appearances for regional and nationally televised programming on Univision and Telemundo, including guest appearances on Escandalo T.V. and Control.

About Gingarte Capoeira: Founded in 1991, Gingarte Capoeira has grown into a thriving community of over 100 students and performers, many of whom have been with the school for over a decade. The focal point of our activity is the Gingarte Academy located at 2056 W. 18th Street in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago. Gingarte has also established satellite classes at other locations around the city. The Gingarte Academy offers a diverse range of classes focusing on Brazilian culture including capoeira, dance, music, and language.

Gingarte trains and practices under the tutelage of Contra-Mestre Marisa Cordeiro, who ranks among the highest female capoeiristas in the United States. She is well respected both in the U.S. and Brazil as a pioneer for women in capoeira.

They also have a performance ensemble, Gingarte Capoeira, a group well known throughout Chicago for our lively shows and demonstrations of capoeira, as well as other African-Brazilian cultural dances.

The Brazilian Carnival parade in Rio de Janeiro is considered one of the greatest shows on Earth. The festival of Carnival (Portuguese: Carnaval), with its spectacular street parades and vibrant music, has become one of the most potent images of Brazil. Carnival is an annual celebration held forty days before Easter and marks the beginning of Lent. Carnival is celebrated throughout Brazil with distinct regional characteristics, although the nature of the events varies.
