About the Morse Theatre and Century Public House

The Morse 1912 The Morse 2008
1912 2008

The Morse Theatre, originally a 1912 silent screen Nickelodeon, will open in the Fall of 2008 as a state-of-the-art, 299-seat live performance venue booking nationally recognized jazz, folk, blues, classical, Irish, singer-songwriters and traditional country artists, along with top local talent. Live theatre, vintage/independent cinema, children’s and cultural programming will also be featured.

The existing structure is being "saved", and the entire renovation, including planted roof, follows "green" environmental building standards. The Morse Theatre re-development, under the guidance of Thom Greene of Greene & Proppe Design, is certified as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) project by Mayor Daley’s Green Initiative Program. LEED promotes sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.

Also a part of the theatre complex, The Century Public House will offer unpretentious dining—a classic Chicago pub, with a nod to the building’s history. It is scheduled to open Spring 2008.

The Morse Theatre is situated in the heart of Rogers Park; a vibrant neighborhood located on the far north side of Chicago near Evanston. Rogers Park offers complete access to public transportation, top educational institutions, Lake Michigan beaches, full recreational amenities and a diversity of businesses and people.
